Earning an IT certification can open the door to a new career. But at FOCUS, we believe preparing students for the workforce means helping them prepare for what comes after they land the job, too.
As part of our commitment to providing wraparound services to our students, FOCUS recently welcomed Fulton Bank for a financial literacy and money management workshop with our Cohort 4 students.
The workshop introduced students to financial concepts and resources designed to help them make informed decisions about managing their money as they transition into the workforce.
Preparing for More Than the First Paycheck
For many of our students, earning industry-recognized computer certifications can create access to career opportunities with greater earning potential. That makes financial education an important part of preparing for long-term success.
Learning how to manage a growing income, establish healthy banking habits, save for future goals, and make thoughtful financial decisions can be just as important as developing the technical skills needed to earn that income.
Fulton Bank representatives shared information and resources with students to begin that conversation, including information about banking services and financial tools available through its Workplace Banking program.
The FOCUS Approach: Supporting the Whole Student
Technical training is at the center of the FOCUS IT Workforce Training Program—but our work doesn’t stop with computers and certifications.
We recognize that successfully entering the workforce involves much more.
Through workshops, professional development, career exposure, mentorship, financial education, and other wraparound services, FOCUS works to give students tools they can carry with them beyond the classroom.
The goal isn’t simply to help our students get a job.
It’s to help them build the knowledge, confidence, and resources they need to build a career and create greater financial stability for themselves and their families.
Building Skills for Life
Our Cohort 4 students are just beginning their journey, and the months ahead will include plenty of hands-on technology training and preparation for certification.
But workshops like this one are an important reminder that workforce development is also about preparing for life beyond the classroom.
We extend our thanks to Fulton Bank for spending time with our students and helping them begin an important conversation about money management and financial wellness.
At FOCUS, we’re preparing students not only to earn their certifications and enter the technology workforce—but to be ready for the opportunities that come with their success.
